Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Remucal Lab

Members of the Remucal research group are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. Below are ongoing efforts to achieve these goals within our program:

  • Members of our group serve on the EC&T JEDI Committee (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) to improve the climate and accessibility within the program. We encourage researchers (undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral) from underrepresented groups to apply to join our program.
  • Christy is the former faculty advisor for the UW Society of Women Engineers and organizes science outreach events for young girls. Graduate students in our group have received grants from WISELI (Women in Science & Engineering Leadership Institute) to organize events focusing on women in environmental science fields.
  • In the EC&T program, we are currently educating ourselves about anti-racism through a Learning Community that reads, watches, and listens to books, videos, and podcasts from a variety of diverse voices. Each semester focuses on a specific topic. Topics have included Environmental Racism, Decolonizing Environmental Science, and Anti-Asian and Pacific Islander Racism in the United States.
